Inspired by the vision of the U.A.E. leadership to create a welcoming environment for American business and cooperation, the American community presented the “Rings of Friendship” monument to the people of the Emirates as a symbol of the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries.
At a presentation ceremony on November 15th, 1997, the “Rings of Friendship” were received by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, then Crown Prince of Dubai and U.A.E. Minister of Defense. Till today, the Rings of Friendship are illuminated by seven lights, representing the seven Emirates, with twenty-five pathway lights leading to the raised site in the Creekside Park, generously provided by the Dubai Municipality. These lights commemorate the twenty-five years of friendship and positive relations between the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.
Weighing in at 6 tons, the Rings, each 16 feet (4.9 m) in diameter and 27 inches (69.6 cm) wide, are constructed of the highest grade American stainless steel and are polished to a mirror finish. They rest on two curved pedestals of Vermont granite, which weigh more than 11 tons alone.
